FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is the warranty term on the products?

A: ToronTek fetal monitors have one-year comprehensive warranty from the date of purchase.  Any faulty device during the warranty period will be replaced with a new unit.

Q: How does the Doppler work‏?

A: The device transmits a sound wave. The baby’s heartbeat changes the shape of these sound waves. The Fetal Doppler picks up these changed sound waves and amplifies them in the form of your baby’s heartbeat.  Due to the nature of the use, there hasn’t been any extensive research done on the safety of the device however the device has been used for more than 50 years. There is no harmful evidence reported on the use but the general consensus is that baby Dopplers are probably safe to use in moderation (twice a week and not for a prolonged period of time during one session – approximately limited to 10 minutes)

Q: How soon can I hear the baby’s heartbeat?

A: The baby’s heart starts to beat at around 6 weeks. Your doctor may be able to find it by using a Doppler as early as 10 weeks, but it’s more common to hear it using a handheld Doppler at 12 weeks. The baby’s heartbeat should be audible 95% of the time in 12-week pregnancies, and nearly 100% of the time after 14 weeks.

Q: Do I need a gel? Where can I purchase one‏?

A: Ultrasound gel is important when using a fetal Doppler. The ultrasound gel is needed to be applied to the skin to help with the transmission of the waves. Ultrasound gel is specially formulated to act as a coupling agent and reduce static that is often caused when using a fetal Doppler. Small size of gel is sufficient during each use (approximately size of a loonie). Do not use colored gels or lotions. Any oil-based substance used with a FetalDoppler will cause excess static and can damage the Doppler probe. ToronTek products have Gels included in the package and extra gel can be purchased from the website.

Q: How long does it take to ship the product?

A: Depending on order time all orders are shipped the same day or maximum by the next business day from Toronto-Ontario by CANADA POST Expedited Service. Customers will receive a tracking number when the shipment leaves the facility. 3-5 business days is the standard delivery time across Canada.

Q: What is your return policy?

A: Our Dopplers have a 14 day period for return if the package has not been opened and the seal is not broken. The customer would be responsible for the shipping cost of the product to our location in Canada where the original shipment was sent from. Refund of the returned item would be done only when the shipment is received by our facility. All UNOPENED returns must have customer information or order number in order for the return to be processed. The customer is responsible for any loss and damage. Q: What batteries are needed for the products‏?

A: All our products use 2 AA size batteries which are easy to find in retail stores. The new package includes a pair of batteries.

Q: How can I record the baby heartbeat?

A: There is an audio cable included in the package. On ToronTek fetal doppler there is a devised audio jack. You should connect the cable to audio jack and connect the other end of the cable to any device which has an audio jack and also has a recording program. Any sound recording would work perfectly fine.

Q: I am very happy with being able to hear the baby heartbeat, Can I skip my next ultrasound session  or Dr.Visit?

A: ABSOLUTELY NOT. Fetal doppler is not a replacement to your regular recommended visit by your specialist. During the visit to ultrasound facilities and also your doctor, there are many fetal health elements are examined and looked through.

Q: I am getting anxious as I can not hear my baby heartbeat- what should I do?

A: The last thing a doppler should give you is anxiety. At early stages of pregnancy fetus is tiny and tend to hind behind mom’s internal organs. Is very normal not being able to spot the heartbeat easily. If you did not succeed to spot the baby heartbeat in 10 minutes, you would need to stop using the device and try it another time.
